Privacy policy

Let It Cook ("we") makes recipes from what's in your kitchen. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Let It Cook app and this website, why, who helps us process it, and what you can do about it. We collect only what the app needs to work and to get better, we never sell your data, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Account: your email address, and the name you choose to add, if any. If you sign in with Google or Apple, the account ID and email they share with us (with Apple, this may be a private relay address). | To sign you in, keep your data yours, and send you emails you ask for, such as password-reset codes. |
| Cooking profile: allergies, dietary preferences and skill level. | So every recipe avoids what you can't eat and explains things at the right level. |
| Pantry and recipes: the ingredients you add, the recipes you create, save, rate or cook, and any photo you add to a recipe. | To make recipes from your kitchen and keep them for you. |
| Photos and speech you send for reading: a photo of a receipt or shelf, or what you said, when you use "Snap a photo" or "Say it". | To turn them into pantry items. Photos are read and then discarded; we don't store them. Speech is turned into text by your phone's speech recognition (Google's on Android, Apple's on iPhone), and only the text reaches us. |
| Usage data: which screens you use, actions such as starting a recipe, timings, app version, device type and operating system. | To understand what works, fix what doesn't and keep costs in check. It's tied to a random account ID, never your name or email, and never includes what you type. |
| Error reports and feedback: crash and error details, and any feedback you choose to send. | To find and fix bugs. Emails are removed from reports before they're stored. |
During the beta, agreeing to share anonymous usage data is required to create an account.
How the AI uses your data
To write a recipe, read a photo or a spoken list, or rescue a step, we send the relevant part of your request (such as your pantry, allergies, diet, skill level and what you asked for) to Google's Gemini models on Google Cloud Vertex AI. Google processes it to produce the answer and, under its Google Cloud terms, does not use it to train its models.
Who processes it for us
- Google Cloud and Firebase (Google): sign-in, our database and file storage (in the EU, Netherlands region), our servers, and the Gemini AI models.
- Statsig: usage analytics and feature switches.
- Sentry: error reports (stored in the EU).
- Resend: sending account emails such as password-reset codes.
- Cloudflare: this website, our domain and email forwarding.
- Google and Apple, only if you choose to sign in with them.
Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your account, profile, pantry, recipes, recipe photos and activity straight away (how to delete your account). Short-lived records, such as password-reset codes and rate-limit counters, delete themselves within hours. Usage and error data is kept by Statsig and Sentry for their standard retention periods.
Your rights
You can see and change your profile in the app, and delete your account and data at any time. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK), you may also have the right to access, correct, export or erase your data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email privacy@letitcookapp.com.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Only you can read your account data from the app; every change goes through our servers, which check that it's yours. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, and we never see your Google or Apple password.
Children
Let It Cook isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
